Make A Difference, COACH!

Why You Should Volunteer to Be a Community Basketball Coach for Rockets Basketball?

Make a Lasting Impact on Young Lives

Volunteering as a coach for Rockets Basketball is an opportunity to positively shape the lives of young athletes in our community. By sharing your time, skills, and passion for the game, you can help kids develop self-confidence, discipline, teamwork, and resilience—qualities that will benefit them both on and off the court. A coach’s influence often goes beyond just the sport, inspiring young players to reach their potential in all aspects of life. There is no requirement to be a basketball expert, we have teams at all levels that just need a leader and fundamentals. You can do this, and you will be glad you did.

Strengthen Your Community

As a coach, you’ll play a key role in strengthening the community by bringing families together and fostering a spirit of cooperation and inclusion. The Rockets Basketball program creates a space where young people can engage in healthy physical activity while learning important life skills. By guiding the next generation, you contribute to a more connected and supportive community. You will make a difference.

Build Lifelong Relationships

Volunteering with Rockets Basketball allows you to build strong relationships with players, parents, and other coaches. It’s a chance to be part of a tight-knit community that shares a love for basketball. These relationships often become lifelong bonds, as you work together to support the development of young athletes and celebrate their successes. We talk Rockets Family here, and we mean it.

Develop Leadership and Communication Skills

Coaching isn’t just about teaching basketball techniques; it’s an opportunity to enhance your own leadership and communication skills. Whether you’re experienced or new to coaching, leading a team requires patience, problem-solving, and the ability to motivate and inspire. These are valuable skills that extend beyond the court and into your personal and professional life. You will grow along with the athletes.

Stay Active and Enjoy the Game

If you love basketball, coaching is a great way to stay connected to the game you enjoy. You’ll have the chance to share your passion with a new generation of players while keeping active and engaged. Plus, being a coach allows you to stay competitive, strategic, and involved in the sport you love, even if you’re not playing yourself. Plus you can work as hard as you want in practice, if you want to use the time to get in a bit of a workout out the kids love coaches who run the drills with them (completely not required).

Give Back and Make a Difference

Finally, volunteering as a community basketball coach is an opportunity to give back to your community. Rockets Basketball relies on dedicated volunteers like you to make the program a success. Your time and energy will help create a positive and enriching experience for local youth, leaving a lasting legacy in our community.

Join Rockets Basketball today and make a difference—both on and off the court!

What do coaches need to coach?

A NCCP Number - a 5-minute process if you do not have one already. https://thelocker.coach.ca/account/login It's Free - and you'll have a few e-learning courses to do on this site. It is Canada's National Coaches Certification Program - and it covers all sports - so you may have this number if you have coached another sport in the past - and it holds your record of registered courses you take for coaching forever. You will set up an account, get a confirmation in your email to set up a password, then you are in. Click the Profile link and you will see your number. That number will stay with you forever, for any sport you coach.

Second - Get registered in our registration portal as staff. That takes a few minutes.

During the process, we can automate a background check for you.  Be sure when setting up your profile to check "I would like to complete an Enhanced Online Police Information Check (Criminal Record Check)." It's one of the first questions you will be asked when entering your personal details. IF you have a backcheck from another organization or work, that you can share via a .PDF document - you can skip that and upload it to your profile in the next step. Do not forget to add your NCCP Number to your profile, it asks for it right under the section where you enter your home address. If you use the Online back check option, you'll get an email with additional steps. It's pretty easy to follow.

Lastly - a few courses online at thelocker.coach.ca

  • Rule Of Two - A 5-minute course found on thelocker.coach.ca
  • Emergency Action Plan - Another 5-minute course found on thelocker.coach.ca
  • Safe Sport - this is a course mandated from a National Level for any coach in Canada. It takes 30+ minutes, it's online at thelocker.coach.ca as well, but mandated to coach any team in any sport in Canada
